A World without Steve Jobs? Back in 1997, his presence would have still been irrelevant if Microsoft hadn't saved Apple's hide by agreeing to continue releasing the Mac version of MS Office and of providing Apple with that necessary extra funding. If that rumor regarding Gassee and BeOS was true, I am really sorry that he overplayed his hand. BeOS was an excellent operating system. Perhaps with Gassee at the helm of Apple, the Intel versions of the Mac would been released sooner and that certainly could have been a big hit. Still, there is no way of telling whether or not Apple would have been at the forefront of the digital music revolution. This is all speculation, anyway, any which way we go.

And then how many people constitutes to being 'public' ?

Eureka ! Someone who "gets it". Having similar experiences ( and presently being stalled within Windows Mobile world ), I've someone express the utility behind UI Design and human factors grants users, who DON'T CARE about how it does what a smart device does, just that:

A) It does in fact "just does it".

B) It does "it" in a manner which the user either engaged interactively with the task they're trying to accomplish, or not impeded from pursuing said. And quite possibly BOTH.

This is the first and foremost uber-feature of the iPhone. Even with the "Touch" HTC still hasn't "gotten it". Nokia appears to be "getting it" with the Nokia Ovi/"Media Experience" line of device. But, merely "copying" touch-stroke action/reactions already delivered on the iPhone is a just one component of the complex function called usability. I cheer Nokia for wanting and taking the bold step. But they'll have to step lively, Apple's products will be into their sophore (or later) iterations by the time Nokia delivers their freshman entry into the race.

Thanks Monica!

By the way, would you mind publishing our emails a little bit differently, so that spam scrapers don't collect them? Maybe with a space around the @ sign or maybe with an [at]

See you at BarCamp!

I agree with you (pre-update). "Blogger" is more than just a title. It can carry a stigma, suggesting vanity or conformity. Blogging has not been popular long enough to develop a cyclical pattern of favor. The connotations of both the word and the action will probably continue to evolve in the popular vocabulary.

Perhaps one day we will be saying "blogger pride" in mixed company without cracking a blush.

It's interesting to see how "PR 2.0" has spread through a natural and intelligent set of influencers, without yet sparking the trend of other PR professionals jumping on the bandwagon (a la Web 2.0, Media 2.0, and Publishing 2.0).

It's been an uphill battle, with an unbelievable sense of resistance, since I first started using the term in 1993 (that makes me sound old) as a way of describing how the Web was redefining how PR would be practiced over the next 20 years. It truly is PR Redux, and I'm glad to see that you are carrying the flag with a true working knowledge and honest conviction. We have to be careful about how much of what we're highlighting is social media vs. the art and practice of "social tools" used to converse with people. Seems that’s a hot topic when I meet with the likes of those defining the landscape through socialized applications.
